Pasay City, Manila – The Adamson University Falcons rattled the University of the East Red Warriors on the paint en route to a 78-71 win, for AdU’s second win in the UAAP Season 76 men’s basketball first round on Wednesday, July 10, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The host university pushed three quarters away from the Red Warriors until UE brought the lead down to seven points. Adamson U had the touch on the ball to sink in a triple and a two against the slumbering UE Warriors.
Roider Cabrera gunned a triple to cripple the Red Warriors by 13 points in the first quarter. Cabrera, during his 27 minutes in play, scored 19 markers and 3 boards to charge the Falcons on its outstanding first three quarters. He slipped in a remarkable clutch triple for his last shot beyond the rainbow to blast 25 points ahead on the second quarter, 1:14 minutes remaining.
The AdU rebounding hulks Ingrid Sewa and Rodney Brondial bloated 11 boards apiece. Sewa drilled 15 points while Brondial had six on the court. While Wingman Jericho Cruz nailed 10 points and 5 rebounds to raise Adamson from defeat against University of Sto. Tomas last Saturday.
The Red Warriors leaked 11-2 run over the Falcons and brought free throws to trim the deficit into 7 points after Lord Casajeros with a double on the line. Casajeros sank in 14 points and 4 of 6 on free-throws.
Roi Sumang shelled a game-high 26 points but went short on his potential last-minute rally, dripping 1-2 for the UE Warriors.
