The official campaign period for the 2013 midterm senatorial elections officially began today with two of the prominent political coalitions hosting their own proclamation rallies.
Thirty-three aspirants will contest for 12 vacant spots in the senate. At least 58 seats are up for grabs among the 136 party-lists.
President Benigno Aquino III- endorsed “Team Pnoy” proclaimed their senatorial line-up at the Plaza Miranda in Quiapo, Manila en route to .a three year campaign period before the May 13 polls.
United Nationalist Alliance (UNA), a political party headed by former Joseph Ejercito Estrada, Vice President Jejomar Binay and Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile, presented their senatorial ticket at the Plaza Independencia in Cebu City.
Team Pnoy has come up with a 12 candidate-slate as guess candidates former MTRCB chair Grace Poe Llamanzares, Senators Chiz Escudero and Lauren Legarda joined the ticket.
The three were earlier introduced as “common candidates” to both UNA and Team Pnoy, but Poe- Lllamanzares earlier expressed to join only the Aquino-endorsed group.
Completing the list are Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV, Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano, Sen. Aquilino Pimentel III, Aurora Rep. Edgardo Angara, former Las Pinas Rep. Cynthia Villar, former Sen. Jamby Madrigal, former Sen. Ramon Magsaysay Jr.,Akbayan Rep. Risa Hontiveros and Benigno “Bam” Aquino IV.

Meanwhile, UNA’s candidates are Sen. Gregorio Honasan, former Sen. Ernesto Maceda, former Sen. Richard Gordon, former Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri, San Juan City Rep. JV Ejercito Estrada, Cagayan Rep. Jack Enrile, Zambales Rep. Mitos Magsaysay, former Tarlac Gov. Tingting Cojuangco and Nancy Binay, daughter of VP Binay.
Both latest surveys from SWS- Business World and Pulse Asia showed that both political parties are in a “deadlock,” both fielding five of its candidates on the magic 12.
Independent Sen. Escudero and Sen. Legarda of Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) remains at the top spot of both survey.

Less popular party Democratic Party of the Philippines endorses Greco Antonious Beda Belgica, Baldomero Falcone and Christian Señeres. Meanwhile, Ang Kapatiran pushes for candidates John Carlos de los Reyes, Marwill Llasos and Rizalito David.
Jesus is Lord Movement founder Bro. Eddie Villanueva of Bangon Pilipinas, Social Justice Society Samson Alcantara, Ausphil Tollways Corporation CEO Richard Penson,former Palawan Gov. Edward Hagedorn, Makabayan Rep. Teodoro Casiño and Ramon Montaño completes the list of senatoriables.
